Ceilings – Faux Painted Mosaic Ceramic Tiles on Drywall
Ceilings – I took a once useless space and transformed it into something special. This room was once a vestibule leading into a powder room. I moved the door to the other side of the powder room and closed the wall. A custom arch door was made for the new room which I distressed and aged so that it has a history (reclaimed from an older structure). I had cabinets made with integrated lighting to display my clients collection of imported decorative liquor bottles and wine classed. To decorate the walls and ceiling I hand painted faux mosaic tiles and applied a patina finish. I chose a candle light fixture which adds additional character. This once empty space is now a show piece for the home. People believe the tiles are real which elevates the value of this room.

Ceilings – This ceiling which originally had a wood finish was painted white. It worked with the previous American country design. I needed it to be wood again. Sandblasting was not an option so I was left with a faux painted wood finish. I made the beams darker for additional interest and separation. This finish is visually as well as cost effective. I also applied a soft patina finish to the walls completing the design.

Ceilings – This is a flat smooth surface where I needed to make it look like individual boards. It is viewed from a distance so the level of detail is not as important as if it were viewed up close. This is a great design solution for ceilings that want to be wood but it’s either not in the budget, or impractical to install.

Ceilings – Faux Painted Yellow Sienna Marble. This was done at the request of my client. He wanted the marble finish on every surface… including the doors. He loved it. Marble is sometimes applied to ceilings so it is a definite design choice… In my opinion, just don’t do the doors!

Ceiling – This room has a spectacular view. My client wanted doors around the perimeter of the room. We built an entertainment cabinet on one wall. Rather than typical door casing, which would look horrible, I directed the finish carpenter to continue the design of the cabinet through the doors making them apart of the cabinetry. In between each door is fluted molding and corbels, connected to a continuous crown molding and and base. All the woodwork received the same finish. This design ensured the woodwork is appreciated (it’s beautiful) but not become the focal point. The view needs to remain the focal point. Now for the ceiling. Color speaks and I listen. Dark blue spoke up. My clients thought I was crazy but agreed to try it. They loved it. The blue color invokes a feeling of warmth, anchors the woodwork and is not a distraction to the view.

Cabinets – These modern slab door cabinets were not going to work with the new old world Euro design. My plan was to make these cabinets into individual pieces of furniture. My clients wanted to keep with the original layout as well as the appliances. In an effort to save my client on the over all cost and also achieve my goal, I discovered a design solution right before me. The existing cabinets lived in pockets, separated by 5 inches of drywall. To create my design I had fluted molding, corbels and base blocks applied to the drywall separating the cabinets. Crown molding and base completed the look. We installed new face-frames and doors and once painted and applied the decorative finish, we had individual pieces of furniture.

Cabinets – My goal with this piece is to have historical elegance. Prior to finishing this cabinet, I distressed the wood in areas that would naturally show signs of wear. I also created worm holes which are sometimes found in reclaimed wood. I combined a stained finish with a patina painted finish that has worn off in areas that would be mostly used. This combination provides the piece with additional interest while establishing the storyline. The story that it has a history.
